Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) all equipment that is used to lift or lower a load must be thoroughly examined by a qualified, competent person every six months.

As a person counts as a load that means that LOLER covers all climbing and accessing equipment used by those working in arboriculture.

The Qualification has been devised with the key aim for you to successfully evidence your competence in forestry and arboriculture operations.

Individual learning programmes can be tailored to your needs whilst enabling you to achieve or work towards achieving a national competence qualification and improve your opportunities.

For persons carrying out a thorough examination, they must have appropriate practical and theoretical knowledge and experience of the arboricultural lifting equipment to be thoroughly examined.

To achieve this qualification you will be assessed on the following:

Understanding of and compliance with legislation pertaining to the examination of arboricultural lifting equipment.

Your ability to produce a report of thorough examination.
Understanding of equipment inspection and fault diagnosis.
Understanding of terminology for the thorough examination of lifting equipment. Understanding of lifting equipment configurations.
